If you’re experiencing a bit of fear of the unknown about your upcoming dental check-up, no worries. Here’s what you can expect during your next dental check-up.
X-Rays
In most cases, your check-up appointment will begin with a set of diagnostic x-rays. These x-rays will make it possible to identify damage or decay that would not otherwise be visible to the naked eye. The x-rays will also reveal the health of the bone, and they will indicate if there are any signs of infection around any of the teeth. Your dentist will use these x-rays in conjunction with your oral exam to fully evaluate the health of your teeth, gums, and bone.
Oral Exam
During your oral examination, your dentist will take a thorough and detailed look at the health of your teeth and gums. The pockets between your tooth and gums will be measured to ensure that there are no signs of gum recession that may be caused by gum disease.
Moving Forward
If your dentist discovers that you are in need of treatment, the findings of the examination will be shared with you and your options will be discussed with you at length. If you are in need of treatment that can not be completed in-office, your dentist will provide you with a referral.
If no immediate treatment is needed, you will be scheduled for your next check-up visit; typically in about 6 months’ time.
